Chhattisgarh: Miracle of de-addiction campaign 'Naya Savera' in Gariaband, accused arrested with 110 liters of raw Mahua liquor.
Gariaband, October 18 (IANS). The special campaign ‘Naya Savera’ being conducted against drugs in Gariaband district of Chhattisgarh has achieved yet another success. Police station Chhura conducted a raid on the information of an informer and arrested an accused with 110 liters of raw Mahua liquor. The action was taken with the aim of curbing the sale and smuggling of illegal liquor and is part of a state-wide campaign. The accused was produced in court and taken into custody. On the instructions of senior police officers, the Gariaband police has intensified ‘Naya Savera’ anti-addiction campaign. The main objective of this campaign is to crack down on illegal liquor, drugs and other intoxicants. All police station chiefs of the district have been ordered to be constantly vigilant through informers and increase patrolling. Under the campaign, along with awareness programs, raids have also intensified. Gariaband SP said that drug addiction is a social evil that destroys families. With this campaign we will not only stop crimes but will also take strong steps to make the society drug free. The incident took place on October 17 at around 14:00. Police station Chhura received secret information from an informer that a person in Gaidbari village was hiding a large quantity of Mahua liquor in his house and was selling it. On receiving the information, the station in charge immediately assembled a team. The police reached Gaidbari village along with the Hamrah staff and laid siege to the place told by the informer. During the search, 110 liters of raw Mahua liquor packed in plastic jerrycans were recovered from the house of the accused. The estimated price of liquor is said to be Rs 22,000. During interrogation, the accused revealed his name as Prama Sadiyal (45 years). He is originally a resident of village Adhikariguda, police station Umarkort, district Navrangpur of Odisha but recently lived in village Gayadbari, Gariaband. During interrogation, he confessed to smuggling liquor from Odisha and selling it in Chhattisgarh. The police are taking further steps in the case. –IANS SCH Share this story Tags
