Chirag Pashan, Minister of Food Processing Industry, urged the Bihar government on Saturday (April 12) to declare the heavy crop damage caused by electricity, hailstorm and unauthorized rainfall as a state disaster. He also claimed sufficient compensation to the farmers concerned in many districts. In a letter to the Chief Minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar, Chirag Paswan, the head of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), wrote: “In the last two days, unlawful rain and hailstorms caused great damage to wheat and other crops in many districts of the state. Compensation must get. State government should reduce interest rates on their agricultural loans and give them extra time to repay their loans. The government must also offer the farmers in the affected areas.
