Ukraine offers 500 tonnes of wheat flour to help Syria

Ukraine sent 500 tonnes of wheat flour to Syria as humanitarian aid, in a move aimed at building the relationship with the country following the overthrow of its government supported by Russia. Ukrainian President Folodimir Zellinski announced the consignment via the social media platform “X” on Friday. In the aftermath of the collapse of the regime of former Syrian President Bashar al -Assad, and a partial withdrawal of the Russian forces supporting him, Kiev tries to strengthen their relationship with Damascus. Earlier this week, Zelinski asked the Foreign Affairs Ministry to strengthen diplomatic involvement in the Middle East. Providing food aid to a war -impaired country is a step that Ukraine, as an important product for agriculture, has previously taken. The country has previously provided similar assistance to African countries. The US Department of Agriculture estimates that Syria should import 1.6 million tonnes of wheat this season.
