The secret of the giant hole of Antarctica
The secret of the trending Antarctica’s giant hole did you know that once in the icy layer of Antarctica, a big hole of twice as a large hole of New Jersey, called Polynya. This rare event is still a mystery to scientists. Scientists saw the hole in the ice of Antarctica in the 1970s. The hole, which was spread to hundreds of miles in Antarctica, was filled with seawater. The hole continued from 1974 to 1976 and then disappeared. This hole appeared again in 2016 and 2017. This time the size was so great that the scientists were surprised. This big hole called ‘Mod Rise Polynya’, named after a Mountain ‘Mod Rise’, a mountain under the sea. In the 1970s, it was estimated that the hole would be built every year, but that did not happen. For the first time in 2017, such a big and long -lasting Polyneya showed. To understand this phenomenon, scientists used labels, satellite data and computer models applied to marine organisms such as SEAL. These techniques contributed to analyzing the currents with snow and water temperature there. This research on Polynya has given scientists the chance to understand how the sea surface absorbs heat and carbon dioxide. Click here Life & Style Click for more stories Click here
