Jodhpur, April 18 (IANS). Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat expressed lucky on the expansion of Jodhpur Airport and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former defense minister Manohar Parrikar. He said it fulfilled the three -decade dream of the citizens. He spoke to the media, saying that the development of Jodhpur Airport was very important for the city’s commercial and educational needs, which will now be completed. Shekhawat said Jodhpur has a great potential for performing industries such as crafts, steel, textile, stone, chemicals and engineering. The presence of high educational institutions such as AIIMS, IIT, NLU, shoes design and fashion design makes Jodhpur special. Jodhpur also needs a modern airport as the entrance to the desert. He said there were two major obstacles in the expansion of the airport. First, soil deficiency, because most of the airport has been at the Air Force since independence, and only the civil terminals at the India Airport Authority. Secondly, the aircraft could not land at night due to a lack of facility of CTI-3 systems and automatic landing. Shekhawat said the central government has strengthened the infrastructure of rail, roads, waterways and airports across the country over the past ten years. The modernization of Jodhpur Airport was also needed in this order. He said former defense minister Manohar Parrikar played an important role in solving the soil problem. On the instructions of the Premier Modi, Parrikar, along with the state government, municipal corporation and airport authority of India, transferred 37 hectares of land and cleared the way for expansion. In the establishment of the new airport building, Shekhawat also thanked the members of the Airport Advisory Committee. He said that this expansion will take the business, education and tourism of Jodhpur to new heights. This airport will not only be equipped with modern facilities, but will also be able to run flights at night. -Ians shk/kr share this story tags
