Jammu and Kashmir become the country's most important golf destination: Omar Abdullah
Srinagar, June 29 (IANS). Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday repeated his government’s dedication to making Jammu and Kashmir one of the most important golf places in the country. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah made this remark during the awards distribution held in Srinagar, where the winners and runners were honored. Earlier, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah launched the tournament with golfers on the Royal Springs golf course attended by prestigious golfers from all over the country, including former chief minister Farooq Abdullah. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, golfers in Kashmir, said his presence is very encouraging. He also thanks the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FicCI) for organizing the golf tournament and tourism stakeholders in Kashmir. He said: “We were very happy to see you all here. There is no doubt that your presence will be very useful to further strengthen our efforts. Its purpose is to bring tourism back on track, which derailed.” Considering the recent challenges, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah accepted the concerns that arose among tourists after the Basaron tragedy. He said: “I understand why people are afraid to come here. I understand the effect of Pahalgam terror on the spirit of the people. So your presence is very important here. The message you take with it further confirms what we may not want to achieve.” He said: “When I talk about Jammu and Kashmir as a tourist destination, my words will of course be seen from the perspective of the locals. But if you return home and share your experiences here, it has more effect.” Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has assured participants that all necessary efforts will be made to provide world-class golf facilities in the Jammu and Kashmir Valley. Referring to the recently wooded tournament in Gulmarg, he said: “For the first time in more than a decade, we have made success with organizing a small, locally participant golf tournament with nine hole. We hope that all 18 holes will be in operation. Greens work by August or September.” He added: “We will also continue to improve the quality of golf courses in Srinagar and Jammu. We are committed to ensuring that you get better sports and settling experiences.” -Ians Aks/PSK
