In 2024, 36 lakh tourists did the heritage sites in Gujarat

Ahmedabad, April 17 (IANS). In the year 2024, more than 36 lakh tourists were sent to 18 heritage sites in Gujarat. According to the government data shared on Thursday, more than 36.95 Lakh domestic and foreign tourists visited 18 heritage sites. Tourists also showed up in large numbers to see the four UNESCO World Heritage Site in Gujarat. Ahmedabad attracted the highest 7.15 million tourists. This was followed by 3.64 Lakh tourists in Rani Ki Vav in Patan, 1.6 Lakh tourists in Dholavira in Kutch and more than 47,000 tourists in Champaner-Pawawagarh. In fact, these four places recognized worldwide are important cultural sites. Champaner-Pawagarh, listed in 2004, is known for a mix of Hindu and Islamic architecture and Holy Kalika Mata Temple. Rani’s VAV was recorded on the UNESCO list in 2014, a beautiful stepdown of the 11th century, which has detailed sculptures and was also painted on the 100 rupee note of India. In addition, in 2017, Ahmedabad was declared India’s first UNESCO World Heritage City, reflecting a history of over 600 years, including ancient gavelis, mosques, temples and poles. According to the government’s data, an ancient city of the Indus Valley Civilization and UNESCO website Dholavira is declared from the year 2021 to UNESCO site, which provides a glimpse into advanced antique urban scheme and water conservation techniques. In addition, much less well-known, but culturally important areas of Gujarat also attract the attention of tourists, which help with permanent tourism initiatives and achieve better. The state’s heritage tourism policy plays an important role in the revival of old forts, palaces and heritage buildings in rural and semi-urban areas. This policy promotes adaptable reuse of heritage property and encourages the public private partnership to preserve and display the architectural heritage of the region. World Heritage Day is celebrated every year on April 18, setting out the importance of the conservation of sites of cultural and historical importance. The theme of this year is “the inheritance that is at risk of disasters and conflict: future preparation”, declared by ICOMOS.
