Congress never forgot Sitaram Kesari: Tariq Anwar
New Delhi, October 24 (IANS). Amidst the Bihar Assembly elections, Friday was in the name of Jannayak Bharat Ratna Karpoori Thakur and former Congress President Sitaram Kesari. On the death anniversary of Sitaram Kesari, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi paid tributes. Congress MP Tariq Anwar also paid tribute to Kesari. After the Congress leaders paid tributes on this occasion, questions are being raised whether the Congress has remembered Sitaram Kesari in view of the Bihar Assembly elections. This question also arose as Prime Minister Modi on Friday paid homage to Jannayak Karpoori Thakur in his native village of Samastipur and addressed a public meeting. Why did Congress remember Sitaram Kesari after 25 years? Responding to this question, Congress Member of Parliament Tariq Anwar said that as far as the respect to Sitaram Kesari is concerned, the State Congress Committee in Bihar has regularly paid tributes to him. This is not a new thing. On the issue of linking the BJP’s memory of Karpoori Thakur and the Congress’ tribute to Kesari, he clarified that there is no such thing. There is no comparison between Karpoori Thakur and Sitaram Kesari. Both were great leaders in their respective places. But Kesari ji’s political life was full of struggles. He started as a worker and rose to become the national president. He was a mentor to me, he took me forward in politics. On Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Samastipur and his statement that there is only one Jannayak, that is Karpoori Thakur, and some people are unsuccessfully trying to become Jannayak. On this, Tariq Anwar said that the public decides who is the public leader. Based on our works, the public considers us as a people’s leader. It cannot be stopped by someone’s words. The people themselves accept their leaders. –IANS DKM/ABM Share this story Tags
