World Pre-Eclampsie Day: Beware of 'Silent Killer' during pregnancy, learn at expert and prevention
New -delhi, May 22 (IANS). Every year May 22 is celebrated as the World Pre-aclampsia day, which aims to spread awareness about pre-eclampsia during pregnancy. In this series, the IANS news agency had a special conversation with Dr Meera Pathak, senior medical officer at CHC Bhangel, Noida. Dr. Pathak explained the symptoms, causes and prevention measures of pre-eclampsia. Dr. Pathak said pre-eclampsia is a pregnancy-related disorder seen at about five to eight percent of pregnant women. It is also called a silent killer because the symptoms are very subtle and do not arise until a fatal situation is formed. He said that if the woman’s blood pressure is usually higher than 140/90 after 20 weeks of pregnancy, swelling in the body and the amount of protein in urine increases, it is considered pre-eclampsia. If one of these three symptoms is present, immediate vigilance is needed. He said that the leading cause of pre-eclampsia is the abnormalities in the placenta. Its risk factors include diseases such as young age (under 18), older (over 40 years), first pregnancy, already hypertension, heart, alongside, diabetes or thyroid, earlier pregnancy includes pre-eclampsia, twin or molar pregnancy and more weight. Dr. Pathak talked about diagnosis, saying that most women have no specific symptoms, but that high BP (140/90 or higher) is found during regular examination. Other symptoms include headaches, staining or double vision, swelling in the hands and feet, upper abdominal pain, vomiting, weight gain more than four kilograms per month, foam or volume decrease in urine. In severe cases, the patient may have attacks, or she may enter a coma. Dr. Pathak, which talked about the complications of pre-eclampsia, said that uncontrolled BP can be brain stroke, seizures, help (help) syndrome (wear on the liver, increasing bleeding tendency, platelet phenomenon), heart failure, renal failure and coma. This condition can be even more dangerous for the fetus – such as miscarriage, death of a baby in the uterus, Iugr (intrauterine developmental delay), a lack of amniotic fluid and premature delivery. He said that the treatment of this condition mainly begins to monitor blood pressure and protein testing. Lifestyle changes such as morning step, exercise, yoga, tension reduction are beneficial. It is advisable to avoid processed foods, sugar, salt and oily foods. Medicine for blood pressure control is also given according to the requirement. But its definition is the only treatment delivery. If the woman’s condition is stable and there is no organ damage, pregnancy is absorbed safely for 37 weeks and then the delivery is done, whether normal or caesarean section. But if the condition of the patient deteriorates, blood pressure is not controlled, the consequences on organs begin to appear or the patient starts to visit, then the doctors are immediately premature delivery to save the mother’s life. Dr. Pathak said that the condition of pre-eclampsia can sometimes arise, even after childbirth. BP can usually increase within 48 hours of delivery and this condition can last six weeks. In such cases, there is a risk of high blood pressure disease in the future. -Ians psk/acade
