India's current Chinese season ends with 52 million tonnes of buffer stock: Isma
New -Delhi, May 16 (IANS). The Indian Chinese and Bio-Energy Manufacturers Association (ISMA) said on Friday that India’s Chinese season from 2024-25 is estimated to be terminated by about 261 to 262 lakh ton of pure sugar production, which will save a good buffer stock to meet domestic demand. Ishma’s statement said the production includes four to five lakh ton of sugar from the special crushing season in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, except 257.44 Lakh ton sugar produced by the middle of the current season. Isma said: “This season started with an early stock of 80 million tonnes. Given the estimated domestic consumption of 28 million tonnes and export estimates of up to 9 lakh ton, the final stock is likely to be about 52-53 lakh ton. During the current season, approximately 27 lakh ton of sugar was derived for ethanol production by April 30, 2025. Ishma said that six to seven lakhton is expected to be deduced in the remaining season. The latest figures show that production in the current 2024-25 Chinese season reached 257.44 Lakh ton by May 15, 2025, in which two sugar factories across the country still work. These two current mills are located in Tamil Nadu, where the most important crushing season is still underway. To increase production, operations are expected to resume during special crushing sessions in various factories in South Carnataka and Tamil Nadu, which usually last from June/July to September. Historically, production in special sessions in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu produces about four to five million tonnes of sugar for the current session. The industry body also said that the Chinese session of 2025-26 gets excited about many positive developments in large Chinese producing areas. Sugar -Sow has improved as a result of a favorable southwestern mushon in the southern states, especially in Maharashtra and Karnataka, in 2024. In the northern region, including Uttar Pradesh, the initiatives for replacement replacement are expected to receive concrete benefits. These efforts are expected to increase sugarcane yield and improve sugar repair. This positive velocity was further improved by climate forecasts of both Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) and Skymet. Isma said it is a good sign for the production of the crop, further strengthening the expectation of a strong and productive Chinese season. -Ians SKT/ECD
