Death toll from Federal II ship fire in Batam rises to 13 workers

Batam – The death toll from the burning of the tanker MT Federal II undergoing repairs at the PT ASL Shipyard Indonesia shipyard, Batu Aji, Batam, Riau Islands (Kepri) has increased. Now the total number of workers who died is 13 people. “It is true that there were additional victims, two people died,” Batu Aji police chief AKP Raden Bimo Dwi Lambang said on Monday (20/10/2025) via detiksumut. He is reported to have died at 04:00 WIB this morning. “The two victims are being treated at Mutiara Aini Hospital,” he said. With the death of two other accident victims, the number of victims who died as a result of the fire on the MT Federal II tanker being repaired at the PT ASL Shipyard Indonesia yard, Batu Aji, Batam, is now 13 people. Meanwhile, 18 injured victims are still undergoing intensive treatment in hospital. Earlier it was reported that the MT Federal II tanker, which was undergoing repairs at the shipyard, had caught fire again. This accident during the repair of the MT Federal II ship is not the first time. Previously, a similar accident occurred in June 2025 and left four workers dead.
