The colonies and markets of Chandni Chowk, Karol Bagh, Rajendra Nagar, Chawri Bazaar, Daryaganj, Lutyens Delhi and other areas shine with brightly lit houses and businesses. Washing and cleaning along with new paint makes the houses look brighter. Bedding, covers, curtains were changed and new utensils and crockery were brought out for the guests. The faint aroma of making gramme laddus with namkeen kept coming from the houses. On Sunday, lamps were seen flickering on doorsteps, balconies and outside houses. On Monday on Diwali every house will be drenched in lamp lights. People also decorated their houses. Vandanwar of different colors and designs, artificial flowers, idols and pictures of Lakshmi and Ganesh ji, auspicious feet and pictures of Lakshmi ji, puja items, lamps and candles arrived at the homes. There is special demand for Indian clothes. The markets were buzzing with shoppers until late at night. However, due to the weekly closure on Sunday, there were fewer shoppers in Chandni Chowk, Sadar Bazaar, Daryaganj and Chawri Bazaar. While markets like Karelbagh, Connaught Place, Khan Market, Paharganj were buzzing with local buyers. Rupchartudashi is celebrated on the day of Chhoti Diwali, there is a great belief in buying cosmetics on this day. In such a situation, the emphasis of women was also on him. Lotus, rose, marigold, tuberose, mogra, kaner, Godavari and jasmine flowers along with mango leaves were also sold to decorate houses on Diwali. Flowers will be sold mainly on the day of Diwali. This time coconuts are also sold in the market. The children’s emphasis was on buying coconuts. On Diwali, people go to the homes of friends and relatives to wish each other. For which gift packs including sweets, dry fruits were also bought. Diwali is celebrated for two days. The majority of the Hindu, Jain and Sikh families in Delhi celebrate the Diwali festival on October 20. There are many families in whose homes this festival, which gives the message of light over darkness and victory of good over evil, will be celebrated on October 21.
