New Delhi, October 18 (IANS). Crime Branch of Delhi Police has busted the scourge of selling illegal e-cigarettes in Vijay Nagar. In this action, four people were arrested and 410 prohibited e-cigarettes were recovered. This action was taken based on information received on 16 October. The raid was conducted by a special team led by Inspector Lichhman under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police Sunil Srivastava, ER-I, Crime Branch. The team arrested Awadhesh Kumar Chaurasia, who runs a paan shop. During interrogation, he confessed that he had previously kept and sold illegal e-cigarettes in his warehouse. After this, his two associates – Gyan Chand Chaurasia and Sunny Chaurasia were also arrested from the same place. Later, another accused Nirmal Kumar who was involved in this racket was caught from Shastri Nagar. The arrested accused include Awadhesh Kumar Chaurasia (30), Gyan Chand Chaurasia (32), Sunny Chaurasia (22) and Nirmal Kumar. Awadhesh and Gyan Chand’s permanent address is Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh) but currently resides in Vijay Nagar. The police found 410 e-cigarettes from them. In this case, FIR was registered in the police station’s crime branch on October 17. During interrogation, the accused told that they bought e-cigarettes from Pitampura and sold them to the youth, especially students, in and around the North Campus of Delhi University. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Vikram Singh, the investigation is still ongoing and other suspects are being searched.
