New Delhi, October 16 (IANS). The AATS (Anti Auto Theft Squad) team of the North Eastern District Police has successfully busted a major case of silver theft and arrested four vicious thieves. The police recovered 10 kg of stolen silver from their possession and also seized two scooters used in the crime. A complaint of theft of 11 kg of silver was registered in New Osmanpur police station on October 11. Considering the gravity of the theft, a special team was formed under the leadership of Inspector Yogesh Vashishtha, AATS in-charge of the North-East district, who was given the responsibility to solve the mystery of the case. The team continuously collected leads through technical and manual surveillance and swung into action and arrested all four accused involved in the theft. Most of the stolen silver, about 10 kg, was recovered at the behest of the accused. Two scooters used in the crime were also seized. The arrested accused have been identified as Nilesh, Pankaj Kumar Chhara and Vishal Garange alias Ajay (residents of Kuber Nagar, Ahmedabad in Gujarat) and Pankaj Mishra alias Chhotu, resident of Harsh Vihar in Delhi. Police investigation revealed that all the accused were earlier involved in similar theft incidents in different states. Nilesh and Pankaj Chhara have seven cases registered against them each related to theft and Gangster Act in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, while Pankaj Mishra has seven cases registered against him related to robbery, theft and forgery. At the same time, five cases are registered against Vishal Garange in Uttar Pradesh under Theft and Gang Act. The police say that this gang used to carry out theft incidents in an organized manner and intended to melt down the stolen silver and sell it illegally. Further investigation into the case is underway so that other possible collaborators and theft networks can also be uncovered. –IANS ASH/ABM Share this story Tags
