False fire insurance claim scam: two prisoners sentenced to 5 years, fine of 60 lakhs
Ahmedabad, September 23 (IANS). The CBI Special Court (Ahmedabad) on Tuesday convicted two people of an old false fire insurance claim, imprisonment for 5-5 years and a fine of Rs 60 lakhs. Among the two people sentenced, the first accused Rashik J Patel Dalsania (Meera Chemicals, Gidc Panoli, Bharuch) was sentenced to 5 years and a fine of Rs 45 Lakh. Second convicted Sanjay Ramesh Chitre (owner and surveyor of SRC Chitre & Company) was ordered to pay a 5 -year sentence and a fine of Rs 15 Lakh. The case was registered on June 29, 2006 by the anti -corruption branch of CBI, Gandhinagar. The case began based on information received from sources. It is alleged that some United India Insurance Company Limited (UIICL) officials had a criminal conspiracy to pass a false insurance claim and pay incorrectly paid Rs 36,86,451. Investigation revealed that the Meera Chemicals factory caught fire on January 20, 2002, which did great damage to the building, machinery and chemicals. The firm claimed from the United Indian insurance company and Sanjay Chitre firm was appointed as a surveyor to judge the loss. The surveyor approved the loss of Rs 36,92,137 and the claim was approved after investigation by the onion branch and Divisional Office. But the CBI investigation revealed that false accounts, false evidence and artificial documents were installed with the claim to extend the damage. The CBI filed two charge page on December 31, 2008 and October 28, 2010. In these charge sheets, Rashik Patel, partner of Meera Chemicals, was also accused of landmeter Sanjay Chitre and 5 officers of Uiicl. These were serious allegations such as fraud, forgery, false documents and criminal conspiracy. During the hearing in the Special Court, 34 Witnesses were presented as evidence of evidence and 234 documents. The court convicted Rashik Patel and Sanjay Chitre and both sentenced. All the officers of the onion involved in the case were acquitted by the court.
