Dengue outbreak in Manipur: 2,343 positive cases and one death in 2025

Imphal, October 13 (IANS). With another 11 people infected with Dengue in Manipur on Monday, 2,343 people have been infected with Dengue so far this year. In addition, one patient died of Dengue in the Bishnupur district. According to officials from the Health and Family Welfare Division, Dengue -positive cases have increased by 73.17 percent so far this year (2025, compared to the same period last year (2024). The report said that between January 1 and October 12 this year, 5.630 people were tested, of which 2 343 positive cases were found. An official from the Health and Family Welfare Division said there was an increase of 990 Dengue cases this year, while 1,353 Dengue cases were reported in Manipur in the same period in 2024. Dengue cases are increasing in 16 districts of Manipur. The largest number of cases was reported in 1,686 in Imhal West, followed by 365 in Imhal -East, 69 in Bishnupur, 63 in Thoubal, 45 in Senapati and 37 in Kakching. The most affected areas are Impal West, Impal East, Bishnupur and Thoubal in the densely populated Imhal Valley region, while Senapati and Kakching are in the hilly areas. The only Dengue-related death took place in the Bishnupur district. Officials said dengue cases are increasing in Manipur, which has raised concerns in the valley and hilly areas. Health officials say prolonged rain and stationary water create favorable conditions for Aedes mosquitoes, which spread Dengue. The Health and Family Welfare Division has strengthened the crimes and awareness campaigns to control mosquitoes. Officials and the Department of Urban Developments have called on people to keep their environment clean, remove stationary water and use mosquito repellents and nets.
