Depok city government reveals why Margonda road often floods during heavy rains

Jakarta – Deputy Mayor of Depok Chandra Rahmansyah together with the head of Depok City PUPR Citra Indah Yulianty visited places affected by floods on Jalan Raya Margonda, Depok, West Java. Chandra revealed the cause of the flooding on the road. “Since morning, we directly inspected the affected locations, such as along Jalan Margonda. We found that many channels were narrowed, some were even missing in the direction of Detos,” Chandra said as seen on the Depok City Government website, Wednesday (22/10/2025). Chandra said at several points, such as around the Margonda Suzuki dealership, the water flow has been cut off. This is because there are buildings blocking the water route. Apart from the Margonda area, the Depok city government will also dredge sediment in the Krukut River and Seng River. Especially on the route leading to Cakra Buana and Pitara schools. “It should be the authority of the West Java SDA, but it is good, we are ready to intervene so that this problem can be dealt with quickly,” he said. The Depok city government also plans to intensify environmental education programs for residents, especially in densely populated areas near waterways. This program will involve schools, communities and community groups to raise awareness of protecting waterways. “The flood problem cannot be solved overnight, but we are committed to solving it in phases and in a measurable way. The important thing is that the public knows that the Depok city government is not silent, we continue to work in the field,” he said. Meanwhile, Citra said her party has prepared a number of technical steps to speed up flood management in the Margonda area and its surroundings. “Our field team has mapped the blocked points and listed the channels that need to be widened. We will also coordinate with sub-district and sub-district officials so that normalization activities go smoothly,” says Citra. He said his party deployed heavy equipment to dredge sediment at various water flow points and deployed cleaning crews to remove debris that had accumulated in the culverts. “We hope that the public will also participate to stop the canals from getting clogged. This effort will be effective if all parties work together,” he added. Jalan Raya Margonda is known to often flood during heavy rains, including Friday (17/10).
