Depression active in Arabian Sea, new low pressure area formed in Bay of Bengal
New Delhi, October 22 (IANS). The Meteorological Department (IMD) said in its latest bulletin on Wednesday that two active weather systems have developed in the maritime parts of the country (Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal). One of these is a depression in the southeast Arabian Sea, while the other is in the form of a low pressure area in the southwest Bay of Bengal near the Tamil Nadu coast. The Meteorological Department has informed that the low pressure area formed in the south-east Arabian Sea has now turned into a depression. The system was centered over the same area on Wednesday morning. The depression was about 630 km west-southwest of Aminidivi (Lakshadweep) and about 1,020 km southwest of Panjim (Goa). According to IMD, this weather system will slowly move in north-northwest direction during the next 24 hours. Due to this depression formed in the Arabian Sea, rains and strong winds are predicted in parts of Lakshadweep, Kerala and coastal Karnataka in the coming days. There was a warning of high waves in the sea and fishermen were advised not to enter the sea for the next few days. On the other hand, the weather system also became active in the Bay of Bengal. According to the IMD, the pronounced low pressure area formed over southwest Bay of Bengal near north Sri Lanka coast has now reached near Tamil Nadu coast. The system was centered over the southwest Bay of Bengal off the Tamil Nadu coast this morning. The department said that this system may further strengthen into a depression in the next 12 hours when it will extend over the southwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal, near the coast of North Tamil Nadu and South Andhra Pradesh. After that, it is likely to cross the coast of North Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and South Andhra Pradesh in the next 12 hours. The Meteorological Department has advised caution in coastal areas and fishermen not to enter the sea. –IANS VKU/AS Share this story Tags
