Jakarta – Deputy Chairman of the MPR RI Eddy Soeparno emphasized the parliament’s commitment to dealing with the climate crisis by holding the Indonesian Climate Change Forum 2025. This forum was held for the third time and was the result of collaboration between the MPR RI and the Emil Salim Institute, which was also attended by Prof Emil Salim. The opening ceremony of the ICC Forum 2025 itself was held on Tuesday (21/10) in the lobby of the Nusantara Building, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta. “Today’s event is an important moment to emphasize the urgency of dealing with the climate crisis. It is part of the MPR’s commitment to carry out its legislative duties, including pushing for the immediate completion of the New Renewable Energy Act, the Electricity Act and the Climate Change Management Act,” Eddy said in his statement, Tuesday (201/50/2010). SCROLL TO CONTINUE CONTENT Eddy added that a meeting was previously held at the office of the Coordinating Minister for Food as Chairman of the Management Team for carbon economic value activities. “On this occasion, we also state that together and in cooperation with other friends, we succeeded in obtaining Presidential Regulation Number 110 of 2025 on the implementation of carbon economic value instruments and the control of national greenhouse gas emissions,” he added. Meanwhile, the Minister of Environment (Minister of LH) and Head of the Environmental Control Agency, Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, said Indonesia will submit a Second Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) in the near future as a national commitment to reducing greenhouse emissions. “The ambition is high, combined with a fairly high economic growth objective. With the presence of Presidential Decree 110/2025, we hope to accelerate the achievement of reducing greenhouse gas emissions,” he said. Deputy Chairperson of the National Economic Council, Mari Elka Pangestu, appreciated the hard work of the Minister of Environment in the completion of the Second NDC. He emphasized the importance of Presidential Decree 110/2025 as strengthening green growth strategies. “We want to grow 6-8 percent, but still be sustainable. This presidential regulation is an important tool to integrate the goals of growth and environmental sustainability,” he explained. According to Mari, Presidential Decree 110/2025 opens opportunities for the voluntary carbon market and cross-border trade. Indonesia has great potential for carbon economic value, which can support emission reduction funding while encouraging sustainable economic growth. This regulation also emphasizes the involvement of local communities and regional governments, as well as transparent and credible international standards. “For example, from the initial stage of the energy transition sector, the potential for project financing reaches 5.8 billion US dollars, while the forestry sector with a carbon price of 15 dollars per ton of CO2 equivalent can produce about 7 billion US dollars per year,” Mari added. FYI, this forum is expected to become a forum for socialization and encourage all elements of the nation to respond to the global commitment to reduce greenhouse emissions as well as build a sustainable ecosystem of carbon economic value.
