Jakarta – Deputy Minister of Home Affairs (Wamendagri), Ribka Haluk, has confirmed that the construction of the ‘Prabowo Subianto Hall’ at the Tom Bozeman Sinakma Wamena Bible College (STA)/Christian Theology High School (SMTK) will begin immediately. This development is a form of government support for strengthening educational facilities and character development in the Papua region. Rebekah’s working visit to STA/SMTK Tom Bozeman Sinakma, Jayawijaya Regency, Papua Mountains, on Friday (17/10), was a follow-up to a promise made by the Minister of Housing and Settlements (PKP) Maruarar Sirait when he visited with the Minister of Interior Muhammad Tito Karnavian last August. Scroll TO CONTINUE CONTENT On this occasion, Rebekah stressed that the central government must ensure that development goes according to plan and correct miscommunications that have arisen in the field. “We are therefore trying to correct the understanding that occurred in miscommunication in the development plans at STA/SMTK Tom Bozeman Sinakma Wamena. The PKP minister wants there to be three main programs. First, the construction of a hall which will be called the Prabowo Subianto Hall,” he said in a written statement, Saturday (18/10/2020). He added that development will involve indigenous sons and daughters of the region, from planning to implementation. He also emphasized the quality of the design because this project bears the President’s name. Apart from the hall, the PKP minister also supported the strengthening of GMKI and the restoration of religious symbols in Wamena. “One more thing, he gave me the task of guarding GMKI. At dinner at that time, students came and the Minister of PKP immediately provided assistance with plans to build the GMKI secretariat office, then assistance to improve the cross monument in the amount of Rp. 1 billion, and then help for STA/SMTK in the amount of Rp. 3 billion,” he continued. Rebekah expressed her gratitude to the Jayawijaya Regency government for facilitating meetings with school officials to equalize perceptions. “We would like to thank the regent for facilitating this meeting. We have leveled our perceptions and met with the teachers’ council. Everything is clear and we will immediately report to the minister for further follow-up,” he said. Meanwhile, the regent of Jayawijaya, Atenius Murip, appreciated the central government’s attention to theological education in the central mountainous region of Papua. He said that the presence of the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs has accelerated development coordination. “This afternoon, together with the visit of the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs to the STA/SMTK Tom Bozeman Wamena Complex, we met with staff and academics at STA/SMTK. We are discussing the placement of the bouse hall construction location given by the Minister of PKP,” he said. Meanwhile, the head of STA/SMTK Tom Bozeman Sinakma Wamena Hosea Murip also expressed his gratitude for the government’s support. “As head of the STA school, I would like to thank the Minister who helped us build the hall, and also to the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, and Mr. President Prabowo Subianto for their assistance and attention to our theological school in Sinakma,” he said. He emphasized that this development aid is very significant for the continuity of theological education and church services in the central mountainous region of Papua. “On behalf of the church and school, we would like to thank President Prabowo Subianto for helping us. Building halls and housing for our students will be a great blessing for the next generation in Papua,” he concluded. This visit is an effort to strengthen synergy between the central government, regional governments and faith-based educational institutions in Papua, as well as to show the state’s presence in the development of human resources (HR) in the mountainous region.
