In connection with this, Agus Jabo lobbied for additional land according to the area required for the construction of a permanent Volkskool, namely 7 or 8 hectares. “Add more than 5 hectares, so the facilities are good,” he said. In the future, districts/cities that already have pioneering public schools will be prioritized for the construction of permanent public schools. Agus Jabo emphasized to Firdaus that the People’s School programme, which is specifically intended for children from poor and extremely poor families in Deciles 1 and 2 of the Single National Socio-Economic Data (DTSEN), should not be abused by the practice of ‘entrusted children’ in the student recruitment process. “This People’s School is for children from extremely poor families. There should therefore be no such thing as entrusted children,” Agus Jabo emphasized. Furthermore, Agus Jabo said that the empowerment and renovation program for uninhabitable houses will be prioritized for the families of Public School students. “Empowerment and uninhabitable housing is a priority for the parents of the People’s School, Mr. President’s order, their children are sent to school, parents are empowered, their houses are repaired,” he explained. It is known that the Takalar Regency Government, South Sulawesi is ready to build a permanent People’s School. The necessary land is available, just waiting for the building process, so that it can be used next year. “The ground for building a permanent public school already exists,” said Firdaus. Meanwhile, the implementation of the Pilot People’s School in Takalar Regency went well. “I reported the People’s School, thank God that it is going normally, there is a middle school and a high school,” explained Firdaus. For your information, in Takalar there are two Pilot People’s School points, namely at stage 1a with high school level which has been operating since July and stage 1c with junior high school level which will start functioning in September 2025.
