Diamond Harbor Police seize 1,000 kg of banned crackers under special operation

Diamond Harbour, October 18 (IANS). Ahead of Kali Puja and Jagaddhatri Puja, the Diamond Harbor police district achieved great success in a month-long campaign against illegal firecrackers. Meanwhile, the police seized about 1,000 kg of banned crackers in various raid operations across the district. This action was taken to promote eco-friendly celebrations and ensure public safety. Diamond Harbor Superintendent of Police (SP) Bishop Sarkar said, “The festive season sees massive use of fire crackers. Our aim is to encourage eco-friendly crackers and stop the manufacture and sale of banned crackers. Over the past one month, teams from Maheshtala and Bajaj police stations have resulted in several raids of 100 kg crackers. 23 FIRs was submitted in this regard. was recorded, and the seized materials were safely neutralized under GD procedures.” He appealed to the public to use eco-friendly fireworks and follow the law. Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mithun Kumar Dey said, “The manufacture and sale of illegal crackers in the district is mainly concentrated in Bajaj and Maheshtala areas. Raids have been conducted continuously for the last one month and the operation will continue for the next few days. 25 cases have been registered so far. We are adopting a zero tolerance policy.” He said that with the cooperation of local residents, the police had previously been successful in cracking down on loud DJ systems and now the same strategy is being applied to illegal fireworks. ASP Mitun Kumar Dey also said that earlier illegal fireworks manufacturing activities came to light in Diamond Harbour, Usti and Falta areas. However, due to police strictness and awareness campaigns, many people have come out of this illegal trade. “Our aim is to ensure that puja organizers and local residents use eco-friendly firecrackers. We also keep an eye on houses so that no one stores explosive materials,” he said. The police have also warned licensed fireworks manufacturers to strictly follow safety rules.
