'District Drug Control Officer' will be deployed in the districts, CM Yogi instructed to create new posts.
Lucknow, October 24 (IANS). Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, emphasized on the strengthening and efficient drug control system with the aim of ensuring the quality of medicines in the state. He directed that to further strengthen the working system at the district level, the post of ‘District Drug Control Officer’ should be created. Chief Minister Yogi said that the number of drug inspectors should be doubled compared to the current one. To make the selection process for these posts more transparent, fair and quality, recruitment will now be done through written examination instead of interview. The chief minister on Friday reviewed the proposals related to the restructuring of the drug control cadre and creation of new posts in a high-level meeting of the Department of Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA). CM Yogi said that proper deployment of drug inspectors should be ensured in all the districts and effective surveillance and timely investigation system should be implemented at the district level. It was informed during the meeting that there are currently 109 drug inspectors working in the department, which is insufficient by the standards of the Government of India. On this, the Chief Minister said that it is very important from the point of view of public health to make the drug inspection system in the state as per the national standards. Restructuring of higher posts of drug control cadre was also discussed in the meeting. The Chief Minister has given his consent to the proposal to increase the number of posts of Deputy Commissioner (Drugs) and amendment in the qualifying service for promotion to the post of Joint Commissioner (Drugs). He gave instructions to set clear qualifications and standards for the post of drug controller in the department. He said that a fixed term of office should be established for this post, so that leadership and accountability can be ensured at the top level of the system. —IANS Vickety/DKP Share this story Tags
