Diwali Special: The foundation of Ramayana is laid in the forest of Chhattisgarh and the story of revenge of brother Ravana!

New Delhi, October 18 (IANS). Dandakaranya Forest in Chhattisgarh is the stronghold of Naxalites, but do you know that according to mythological beliefs, Dandakaranya Forest was once home to demons and dreaded animals. This area has a deep connection with Ramayana and on the occasion of Diwali especially the Maoists there celebrate Diwali with full enthusiasm. Dandakaranya forest is associated with Lord Rama and the demon Shurpanakha. This is the forest from which the story of the slaying of Ravana in Ramayana is composed. If legends are to be believed, it was in this forest that Lord Rama spent 12 years of exile with mother Sita and Lakshman. Shurpanakha, who had come to meet her brother Khar in this forest, saw Lord Rama and was fascinated by him at first sight. Lord Rama was married and Maryada Purushottam, so he asked Shurpanakha to talk to Lord Lakshmana. Shurpanakha tried to woo Lakshmana with her beauty, but in anger Lord Lakshmana cut off Shurpanakha’s nose. In the same forest, Shurpanakha also decided to take revenge from her brother Ravana. It is believed that Shurpanakha was married to the demon king Vidyuvihva, son of Kalka. Vidyuvihva was a great devotee of Lord Vishnu and Ravana did not like the fact that he worshiped Lord Vishnu. In such a situation, enraged Ravana killed Shurpanakha’s husband. Vow to avenge her husband’s death and break Ravana’s ego. In such a situation, Shurpanakha praised the beauty of Mother Sita so much in front of Ravana that Ravana became fascinated by the beauty of Mother Sita and planned to abduct her. So it would not be wrong to say that the foundation of Ramayana was also laid in the Dandakaranya forest. Even today, the festival of Diwali is celebrated every year with full customs in Dandakaranya. The story of the killing of Narakasura is also popular there and the festival of Dhanteras, Chhoti Diwali and Diwali are celebrated with enthusiasm. –IANS PS/VC Share this story Tags
