DRI conducted an intelligence operation called “Operation Fire Trail” and seized Chinese fire crackers worth Rs 4.82 crore. This smuggling network was uncovered in an operation conducted by the Mumbai Regional Unit. DRI’s ‘Operation Fire Trail’ The ship came from China and was going to the Inland Container Depot (ICD) at Ankleshwar, Gujarat. 46,640 crackers and other prohibited items were found behind an upper layer of clothing in the container. The entire shipment was immediately confiscated. During the investigation, some incriminating documents were recovered which revealed the workings of this gang. Taking immediate action on this, a key suspect related to the case has been arrested in Veraval, Gujarat. A suspect arrested in Mumbai. Officials confirmed that the import of crackers into India is prohibited under the Foreign Trade Policy, which requires prior valid licenses from both the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) and the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organization (PESO) under the Explosives Rules 2008.
