Drones hits Russia's most important export -oriented oil refinery
(Bloomberg) -The Kirishi policing, known as Kinef, in the Leningrad region, was attacked by Ukrainian drones overnight, while Kyiv retains the pressure on Russian energy and industrial facilities. Local Governor Alexander Drozdenko said at Telegram that a fire caused by falling drone debris was extinguished and there were no casualties. Kinef, owned by Surgutneftte, is one of Russia’s largest oil refineries, with an annual processing capacity of more than 20 million tonnes. It is located in the Kirishi district of the Leningrad region, about 100 kilometers southeast of St. Petersburg and more than 800 kilometers north of the Ukrainian border. The general staff of the armed forces of Ukraine confirmed the attack on Telegram and said the impact of the strike was being assessed. Ukraine is “systematically” working to weaken Russia’s military and economic capabilities with a specific focus on fuel, weapons and ammunition production, the general staff said. Separately, the governor of Russia’s perm region on Telegram said late Saturday that a drone had attacked an unspecified industrial enterprise in the city of Gubakha. There were no casualties and the site is still working normal, Governor Dmitri Makhonin said. Ukrainian legislature Oleksiy Honcharenko said at Telegram on Sunday that Drone had hit and damaged a new facility that opened in 2023 at the Metafrax Chemicals plant in Gubakha, one of Russia’s largest methanol producers. The claim cannot be verified independently. Gubakha is located in perm region in the Oral Mountains, about 2000 km from Kyiv and about 1,700 km east of Moscow, as Ukraine continues to expand the scope of its drone strikes on energy assets and other targets deeper into Russia. -With help from Olesia Saphronova.
