Durgapur case: Nari Naray Vahini protests, claim strict action against culprits

Bhubaneswar, October 13 (IANS). There is anger among the people about the gang rape of a medical student from Jaleshwar in the Balasore district Odisha Friday in Durgapur. Naris Nyay Vahini claimed immediate action in this case. Nari Nara Nyay Vahini protested against this incident in Bhubaneswar. Meanwhile, Nibedita Patnaik said on behalf of the Vahini: “This incident is horrible and condemnable. Women’s safety cannot be taken lightly. Such crimes do not happen alone. We must protect our girls and ensure that they can live, study and move around without fear in the city.” He said victims should never be silenced, the truth must come out, and offenders must be punished immediately and decisively. He pointed to the Mamata Banerjee government, and he said we would not accept the old pattern of covering or delay. Immediate action is now needed. He said that if the mindset of society does not change, then it is not enough to say ‘to educate your daughters’. Along with the public exclamation, the state must strengthen law and order, insure timely prosecution and rebuild trust, so that every family feels that their daughters are safe. On Friday, a second -year medical student from Odisha was allegedly raped outside the university campus in Durgapur when she went to dinner with her male friend. According to police, the student came from the university campus with her male friend when a few men riding a motorcycle surrounded them and conveyed obscene remarks to them. The accused allegedly chased the student’s friend. Later, the student was dragged to a bush behind campus and raped gang.
