New -delhi. Internet and electricity connectivity has always been a major challenge in difficult areas such as Ladakh, but now the situation is changing rapidly. According to the official data offered in Parliament, from the achievement of the Internet to every Gram Panchayat to new transmission lines and solar projects, the central government is working extensively to strengthen the infrastructure here. So far, all 193 grams of Panchayats of Ladakh have been linked to satellite under the Bharatnet project. That is, now the internet service is ready. In addition, 175 new mobile towers were installed in far and hilly villages where there was no mobile network. Its direct impact is visible on the connection of the locals and security forces deployed on the border. The government is also working on major projects to overcome the lack of electricity in Ladakh. The 335 km long 220 kW Srinagar-Leh transmission line began in the year 2019. Now new 220 kW lines will connect areas such as Nubra and Zanskar. In addition, a 66 kW line is laid from Himma to Nyoma and Kharu to Bulki. Major projects are also being started to increase the grid connection in areas along the border. This includes 220 kW Fyang Discit (Nubra) and 220 kW Dras-Padum (Zanskar) transmission line, which will be targeted by next year. The new direction of solar energy is also underway to make Ladakh a center of renewable energy. A 25 MW AC, 50 MW peak solar power plant and 40 MW and Battery Energe storage system (BESS) were launched in Taru area. This work was dedicated to Solar Energy Corporation of India (Seci) and construction work is underway. From these steps it is clear that both internet and electricity are improving on the fronts quickly. It will not only facilitate the lives of the local population, but also strengthen important sectors such as tourism and defense.
