Jakarta – The impact of climate change is now increasingly felt in Indonesia. From climate anomalies, large floods found in various places are poor air quality indices to waste problems. On the other hand, efforts to accelerate the energy transition do not maximize the potential of renewable energy in Indonesia. According to the Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian MPR of the National Mandate Party (PAN) faction, Eddy Seeparno, energy management and the handling of climate change in Indonesia fundamental problems at policy level. He said there are three most important challenges that need to be addressed immediately: policy coordination, policy clear and policy consistency. In addition, Eddy emphasized that there is still overlapping coordination between ministries in the development of the carbon economy. Browse to continue the content “to enter the carbon sector, business operations must handle four coordinating ministries and twelve technical ministries. Therefore, special efforts are needed to become a world leader in the climate sector, as President Prabowo Hope,” he said in his statement, Sunday (12/10/2025). It was transferred by Eddy in a discussion held by the Habibia Center entitled Climate Action 101 Talkshow: From Crisis to Opportunity -Indonesia’s path to sustainable growth in the Jakarta Conference Center. This event is part of a series of events on the Indonesia International Sustainability Forum (IISF). Therefore, Eddy proposed the formation of a special institution or even a ministry focusing on the coordination of carbon economic policy and climate change management. According to him, Indonesia needs a single authority that has a mandate in the sector, so that the energy transition and climate crisis reduction can work in an integrated way. “This step is important, so Indonesia immediately has credibility in the eyes of the world to seriously face the impact of the climate crisis, while also opening new economic and financing opportunities of investment and global commitment to climate change,” he continued. Eddy believes that the existence of this ministry will be a symbol of Indonesia’s seriousness in the era of the climate crisis, not just climate change. “We have passed the climate change phase and are now working on a climate crisis that requires emergency and systematic handling, and most importantly, is to be a priority,” he said. Eddy also suggested that the importance of accelerating regulations that supports the energy transition emphasizes. He said that the DPR and the government discussed four important accounts, namely the Renewable Energy Bill, the Electricity Account, the Oil and Gas Account and the Climate Change Management Bill. The Climate Change Management Bill, which is an initiative of the PAN fraction of the DPR RI, is included in the 2026 priority roll technas and is expected to be completed next year. “With clear regulations and strong coordination, Indonesia can accelerate the energy transition, while strengthening the global commitment to handling the climate crisis,” says Eddy. Eddy has concluded with the belief that Indonesia has all the capital to lead the global clean energy transformation, accompanied by integrated policy under one institutional umbrella. “The climate crisis is no longer an environmental issue, but rather a national existential issue. We need a ministry capable of bridgeing the sector’s policy so that Indonesia not only survives but also leads in the green economy,” he concluded. (AKD/AKD)
