Egypt-Malaysia discussed aid and reconstruction in Gaza, development of Palestine was also an issue

Cairo, October 19 (IANS). After two years, the war in Gaza stopped. Meanwhile, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim spoke by phone about Gaza reconstruction efforts as well as developments in the Palestinian issue amid the Israel-Hamas ceasefire. Egypt’s presidential office said in a statement that during the phone call, President Sisi touched on the outcomes of the recent Sharm el-Sheikh summit. It also reviewed Egypt’s ongoing coordination with mediators to implement the first phase of the ceasefire plan to end the war in Gaza. The Egyptian president emphasized the coordination of positions between Egypt and Malaysia, based on recent developments, in order to start a serious political path leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, Xinhua news agency reported. The statement said Sisi confirmed Egypt’s intention to convene an international conference for the early reconstruction of Gaza. Along with this, he expressed the hope that there will be continuous coordination and cooperation from Malaysia in this regard. The statement further said that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressed Malaysia’s readiness to participate in reconstruction efforts and provide humanitarian aid to Gaza. The Malaysian prime minister emphasized his country’s full support for Egypt’s efforts to end the war. After two years of war between Israel and Hamas, the Gaza ceasefire agreement entered into force on 10 October. According to Gaza health officials, 68,116 Palestinians have been killed and 170,200 others injured in Israel’s military campaign since October 7, 2023.
