Election Commission completes first random distribution of EVMs and VVPATs for by-elections on 8 seats

New Delhi, October 16 (IANS). The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday announced that the first random distribution of EVMs and VVPATs has been successfully completed for the upcoming by-elections in all 8 assembly constituencies. This process lasted from October 9 to October 16. The Election Commission said that this randomization was done through the EVM Management System (EMS) by the District Electoral Officers (DEOs) in the presence of representatives of national and state level authorized political parties. After randomisation, adequate arrangements of Beat Unit (BU), Control Unit (CU) and VVPAT machines of EVMs and VVPATs are ensured in each assembly constituency. According to the commission, the Budgam assembly constituency has 173 polling booths, 276 beating units (BU), 276 control units (CU) and 276 VVPAT machines. 77-Nagrota has 150 polling stations, 240 BU, 240 CU and 240 VVPAT machines. 71-Nuapara has 358 polling stations, 572 BU, 572 CU and 608 VVPAT. 45-Ghatshila has 300 polling stations, 390 BU, 390 CU and 420 VVPAT. 61-Jubilee Hills has 407 polling booths, 569 BU, 569 CU and 610 VVPAT machines. 21-There are 222 polling stations, 266 BU, 266 CU and 288 VVPAT machines in Tarn Taran. 02-Dampa has 41 polling stations, 82 BU, 82 CU and 82 VVPAT. 193-Anta has 268 polling stations, 348 BU, 348 CU and 375 VVPAT machines. The Election Commission said that this random list was shared with the representatives of all national and state level political parties. Further, all EVMs and VVPAT machines will be safely stored in the locker room of the respective congregation. The Commission also informed that after the release of the final list of candidates, the first random list will also be shared with all the candidates. Let us tell you that by-elections have been announced for 8 assembly seats in 7 states. These constituencies include Budgam and Nagrota in Jammu and Kashmir, Anta in Rajasthan, Ghatsila in Jharkhand, Jubilee Hills in Telangana, Tarn Taran in Punjab, Dampa in Mizoram and Nuapada in Odisha. The last date for filing nominations for Jammu and Kashmir and Odisha is October 20, while for Jharkhand, Mizoram, Punjab, Telangana and Rajasthan, the last date is October 21. Voting for the by-elections for these seats will be held on November 11 and the counting of votes will take place on November 14 DCHP.
