Elon Musk mocks AWS outage, promotes X Chat as most major apps go down
Elon Musk once again touted the virtues of his social media platform X as most popular apps faced downtime due to an Amazon Web Services technology issue. Musk emphasized that X was not affected by the disruption because it does not have a dependency on Amazon’s cloud service. In a post on X urging users to switch to X chat, Musk wrote: “The messages are fully encrypted with no ad brackets or weird “AWS dependencies” so I can’t read your messages even if someone puts a gun to my head. You can also do file transfers and audio/video calls.” Musk also wasn’t happy with the privacy-focused personal messaging app Signal, which has been pitching itself as a much-needed alternative to WhatsApp for the past few years. The app also faced downtime due to the AWS outage. ”I no longer trust Signal,” Musk wrote, adding, “𝕏 Chat, activated from the left menu, is better than Signal.” While Musk has freely mocked other companies about the AWS outage, his own platform (X) has experienced an unprecedented number of technical glitches and outages since he took over in late 2022 and laid off 80% of the company’s staff. His other companies aren’t exactly exempt from technical issues either. Just last month, Musk’s Starlink faced a global outage that affected thousands of users across North America, Europe and Asia.
