Why did Maa Durga kill Mahishasura
According to folklore, the Mahishasura demon in the golden age attacked this Devalok and created a tragedy. Then on the call of the gods, Mother Parvati took the form of Goddess Durga and fought fiercely with Mahishasura. During the war, Mahishasura ran towards the forests and mountains to save his life, but Mother Durga ended her on the hill of the big Dongar. In the remains of this war, the lion’s claws, buffalo horn and mother’s footsteps and mother’s Nayan hills are emerged on the rocks, where worship is still done today.

Religious significance of big dongar
The mountains and forests of large Dongar are considered to be the abode of 33 categories of deities. This area is a symbol of deep faith and spiritual power for the people of Bastar. Earlier, due to the capital of Bastar being in Bada Dongar, the main festival of Maa Danteshwari Dussehra was also operated from here.

The big Dongar is located 50 km from Kondagaon district headquarters. There are two main routes to reach here. The first is a big dongar via Jugani from Kondagaon. Second, from National Highway 30, you can go to Bada Dongar via Farsgaon. Bus, taxi and auto facility are also available to reach here. The temple can be reached by climbing the hill.
