Encounter between police and robbers in Amritsar, crook injured by bullet
Amritsar, October 18 (IANS). There was an encounter between the police and robbers in Amritsar, Punjab on Saturday. In this encounter, one of the accused was wounded by a bullet. The accused has been identified as Vikramjeet alias Vikram. A few days ago, Vikramjeet along with his associates entered a house on Ranjit Avenue posing as Enforcement Agency officers and escaped after ransacking the family. Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said there was an encounter between the police and the robbers in Ranjit Avenue area, in which one of the main accused of the robbery was wounded by a bullet. Bhullar told that when the police caught the accused Vikram, he took the police team to a place on the pretext of giving information about his associates. Meanwhile, he took advantage of the opportunity and opened fire on the police. In retaliation, the police also opened fire and injured Vikramjeet. He was immediately admitted to the hospital. The police commissioner said that several serious cases have already been registered against the accused, including cases under attempt to murder, Arms Act and NDPS Act. The police identified his three other associates, Mandeep, Jatinder (Sinnu), and one more, and special teams were constituted to arrest them. Commissioner Bhullar said that the Punjab Police is working on a zero tolerance policy against organized crime. Any criminal, no matter what state he hides in, will be brought to justice.
