Ernie Clements big hit elevators blue jays over tigers

Ernie Clement hit a two-out RBI singles at the bottom of the ninth innings and the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the visiting Detroit Tigers 2-1 on Saturday afternoon. Brenan Hanifee (2-1) made Daulton Varsho’s one-time double in ninth place. Varsho took third on a basis. Knyphit Anthony Santander was deliberately walked to set up Clement’s run-off hit to give Toronto a split of the first two games of a series of three games. Spencer Torkelson hit a solo homer for the Tigers, who had a winning line of four games. The right hand of Detroit, Reese Olson, was excellent, but did not take into account the decision, although he allowed no runs, one hit and one hike while taking six over six innings.
