Ernie Clement hit a two-out RBI singles at the bottom of the ninth innings and the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the visiting Detroit Tigers 2-1 on Saturday afternoon. Brenan Hanifee (2-1) made Daulton Varsho’s one-time double in ninth place. Varsho took third on a basis. Knyphit Anthony Santander was deliberately walked to set up Clement’s run-off hit to give Toronto a split of the first two games of a series of three games. Spencer Torkelson hit a solo homer for the Tigers, who had a winning line of four games. The right hand of Detroit, Reese Olson, was excellent, but did not take into account the decision, although he allowed no runs, one hit and one hike while taking six over six innings. Torkelson led second place with his 12th Homer of the season, a break to the left in the middle of a belt height conversion in the middle of the plate of left -handed Eric Lauer. Colt Keith followed with a double, but Lauer ended the innings with three aircraft. Lauer allowed one run, three strokes and no hikes while beating five in three innings before Yariel Rodriguez replaced him in fourth place. Olson allowed a single until his first hit of the game, Bo Bichette, and then faced the minimum number of overs using a double game through the sixth effective using a conversion. Detroit’s Beau Breeze took over in seventh place and an edge to Vladimir Guerrero Jr. He culminated George Springer with one and was replaced by Tyler Holton, which caused a first-class doubles grounds to short of the blinker Myles Straw. Toronto’s Yimi Garcia had a perfect eighth inning. Holton walked Clement to open the house eighth. Clement took second on a offer bunt by Nathan Lukes. Will Vest has replaced Holton to face the pinch of Alejandro Kirk, stroking an RBI anger in the right field line. Jeff Hoffman (4-2) of Toronto walked Gleyber Torres to deduce from the ninth.
