The method of education in India is constantly changing, but there have been very few attempts to increase students’ understanding of subjects like Mathematics in an easy and experimental way. A pilot project to set up a mathematics laboratory at Nathdwara in Rajsamand district is currently underway. Under this project, such laboratories will be built in a total of 120 government schools, through which students from classes 6 to 10 will be able to easily understand difficult math theorems, formulas and experiments. A budget of ₹3 crore has been sanctioned by the DFFT fund for this endeavour. This innovation will give students the opportunity to understand how math formulas are formed and how different principles of math can be put into practice instead of just memorizing them. A new chapter in activity-based learning: Activity-based learning is promoted under the New Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020). Like Physics and Chemistry, laboratories are now also being built for Mathematics. In the laboratories, students will not only be taught the rules of arithmetic or geometry, but will also gain practical experience of how mathematical principles and formulas are made and their practical use. In this way, students’ creative thinking and problem-solving ability will also increase. IIT prepared the concept and design. The concept and design of Math Labs in Rajsamand was developed by EduMassy, the incubated center of IIT Jodhpur. The design is based on NCERT syllabus for classes 6 to 10. Before setting up labs in schools, teachers are trained by IIT experts. Students get more excited about these labs because they get a new way to understand and learn math. The construction of Construction Math Labs by Khadi and Village Industries is based on an indigenous concept. It is managed by the Khadi Bhandar and Cultural Development Institute of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission of the Government of India. Production by Local Village Industries reinforces the concept of local for local. Laboratory equipment, such as magnetic iron boards and 3D mold models, are produced locally. Share this story Tags
