Sleeping is one of the basic things for a person, as it helps to renew his activity and restore his vitality, as well as repairing damaged tissues and building a new one.

Various sleep needs

In this context, Dr. Mohamed Al Mahdi, Professor of Psychiatry at Al -Azhar University, explained that infants need about 16 hours of sleep per day to support their growth and development.

As for adolescents, they need about 9 hours of sleep to enhance their physical and mental concentration.

Adults and the elderly sleep hours

During his presentation of the “Psychological comfort” program broadcast on the “People” channel, he continued that adults need an average of 8 to 9 hours of sleep per day to maintain their general health and levels of energy.

With age, a natural change in sleep patterns and needs occurs, the elderly are only 5 or 6 hours of sleep and remain vigilant during the day.

In advanced stages of age, an increase in nightclug periods is observed and a reduction in the total sleep hours, as the body’s need for deep comfort with age decreases.
