EXCLUSIVE: Sex-for-mark Scandal Rocks Lagos Public Secondary School Like management trying to cover the 'abuse of 11 girls' of the teacher
Saharan Porters obtained damning sound recordings from the victims who told their ordeal on the basis of the disgraceful teacher. An important scandal for sex-for-marks shook Babs Fafunwa Millennium Senior Secondary School in Ojodu-Berger, Lagos State, with the management of the school actively trying to abuse at least 11 girls by a further math teacher, Mr. Egberongbe Adegbenga Toheb, to cover. Saharan Porters obtained damning sound recordings from the victims who told their ordeal on the basis of the disgraceful teacher. One of the victims set out how the abuse began when she was in the senior school 1, and how Mr. Adegbenga manipulated her under the guise of her math degrees. She said: ‘When I was in SS1, we were in the office of Mr. Gbenga; Then he saw me and my friends. He said he wanted to see me. He said I should come back alone. Later, I went back, and he asked if I was good at math. I told him that I wasn’t very good. He then told my friends to wait outside. He said he could give me. SS1, he has now said that we are about to take exams and ask if I would not do what he asked for. I asked what, and he said if I met, I wouldn’t fail. “There was a specific topic he taught us, and we didn’t understand it. He then said that he would teach me in his office. But before he started, he whispered in my ear, ‘I’m going to kiss you after teaching. “After the exam, he told me that we should meet in a hotel near Alagbon bus stop. “Another victim told how he left her in a classroom and tried to attack her before she managed to escape.” The day he first touched me, I confronted him. He said it was a mistake and that my body belonged to him. SS1 F -class, he removed his belt and tried to force himself on me. The attempt to cover the school management when the scandal arrived earlier this year, Nysc Corps member Clement James, who served in the school and was also an alumnus, played an important role in exposing the abuse. According to James, he reported the matter to various agencies, including Education District VI, Dohs Cares Foundation, Lagos State Ministry of Education, Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) and the principal. Saharan Porters learned that the Ministry of Education’s Monitoring and Investigation Department after these reports arrested and handed the teacher to the DSVA. A court then postponed him in March 2025. Instead of supporting the victims, the school management launched a smear campaign against James, banned him from the school grounds and distributed false allegations against him. Assault and intimidation against whistleblower On Monday, March 24, 2025, James returned to the school after previously getting permission to take photos with his students and the NYSC certificate. With his arrival, a teacher, Mrs. Yusuf, grabbed his phone from a student and handed it over to the principal. “The principal called me to her office and demanded that I unlock my phone so she could read my chats and seize evidence. I refused. Then his male teachers ordered to block the entrance and threatened me to release my phone, ‘James says. According to James, the vice principal, Mrs. Lungs, recorded a video of him while the principal prevented him from leaving. The intimidation further escalated when he was limited to a toilet in the principal’s office for a few minutes. “The principal stood firmly at the toilet entrance and prevented me from leaving until I surrendered my phone. But just as things escalated, the quality assurance and officials of the ANCOPPs showed up for an unannounced visit. I used their presence to escape from the office of the principal where I was assaulted. ‘ James further revealed that some teachers were instructed to turn students against him. “Mrs. Dikko told SS1E students to chase me out when they see me in their class. Management was very much pointing out to quiet me because they knew I had damning evidence,” James said. The Lagos Agency for Home and Sexual Violence has confirmed that the case is still in court and has promised that it will not be swept under the carpet. “The Pid thanked me for talking, promised to keep me anonymous and gave me the assurance that the matter would not die under the carpet. They also looked at how the school management grabbed my phone and kept me in the toilet,” James revealed. It was also confirmed that Mr. Adegbenga was transferred to the Alausa police station during the first hearing during the first hearing. During the second trial, he was granted bail with a condition of ₦ 300,000. The case was scheduled for the next hearing on April 22, 2025. When Saharara Porters the principal, Mrs. Osunrinde, contacted, she rejected the call and blocked our phone number afterwards. The Vice Principal, Mrs. Lungs, also refused to comment and say, “The case is in court, and I will not comment on it. If the sources that give you information think that they have something to prove, they must come to court.” Lagos State Police Command spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin refused to comment on the issue, saying: “It was harmed to talk about cases already in court.” Despite the ongoing lawsuits, the school management’s continued efforts to cover the scandal emphasize and to intimidate those who expose the abuse, the deep -rooted culture of silence and complicity that enables sexual predators to thrive in Nigerian educational institutions.
