Expert analysis of Prabowo's Ultimatum to naughty ministers

Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto has issued an ultimatum to remove ministers who have not improved after being given three warnings. Adi Prayitno, director of Indonesian Political Parameters (PPI), assessed that Prabowo delivered the ultimatum in the first year of his administration as a form of firmness that will not tolerate poor performance. “This is the last warning to the minister to work seriously and work properly according to the president’s expectations. Moreover, the government has already completed one year, so there will be no more tolerance for ministers whose performance does not meet the expectations,” Adi told reporters, Sunday (19/10/2025). Because, he said, the people will support the president in removing ministers who are not working well. “This time it seems that the president will not pardon ministers whose work is not done properly. This is the last chance to improve. The people support the president to replace ministers whose work is not good,” he said. Pangi Syarwi Chaniago, executive director of the Voxpol Center for Research and Consultancy, said Prabowo is trying to fulfill his campaign promises to the people. According to him, Prabowo does not want to be burdened by the minister’s poor performance. “Of course, the president has targets for his job promises to the people that must be fulfilled. The president certainly does not want to be burdened, which means he has ministers who are responsible for answering his campaign promises,” Pangi said. Pangi believes that Prabowo’s statement shows that evaluations are carried out based on performance rather than dividing political power among supporting political parties. “The president reshuffled things like this almost three or four times, yes, the reshuffles that were carried out were whether the reshuffles were based on power sharing or performance based. For example, if he was reprimanded 1-2 times, warned three times, he was still naughty, for example, it means that the president should have evaluated ministers who were not in line with the targets said by Pangi,” said Pangi. “So in the context of this one year, a performance-based reshuffle should also be carried out using measurable metrics,” he added. Prabowo’s ultimatum Prabowo previously reminded ministers to work properly and not commit abuses. He warned his ministers that if they were warned three times they were still ‘naughty’, they would be replaced. “My subordinates are great, aren’t they? If there are one or two naughty ones, I’ll warn them, right?” said Prabowo when he gave a scientific speech at the public senate session of the National University of the Republic of Indonesia (UKRI) at The Trans Luxury Hotel, West Java on Saturday (18/10). “One warning, you’re still naughty, you still won’t listen, two warnings, three times, it’s okay to move,” he continued. Prabowo will not be afraid to face the ‘thieves’ in this country. He believes the people are after him. “I have no doubt, I will face corruption, criminals, thieves, I will face it with my brothers and sisters. I’m sure, I’m sure the Indonesian people are behind me, I believe it,” he said. Also watch the video: The question of a reshuffle emerged after Prabowo touched Ndablek’s subordinates (fca/gbr)
