Fadli Zon reveals the key to making museums and cultural heritage interesting to the public
Jakarta – The Indonesian Minister of Culture (Menbud) Fadli Zon visited the Sandi Museum and the Dalem Jayadipuran Cultural Heritage Building in Yogyakarta. During a visit to the Sandi Museum, Fadli said the museum is an important example because the location itself has high historical value. “We can learn a lot. Hopefully more people will come to the Sandi Museum because this museum has an interesting display system and storyline,” Fadli said in a written statement on Friday (17/10/2025). This place has seen several important events in history, especially regarding the role of the world of passwords and cryptography in the struggle to maintain the sovereignty of the unitary state of the Republic of Indonesia. Furthermore, during the emergency government of the Republic of Indonesia, specifically the general attack on March 1, 1949, Rubiono sent messages of struggle via code so that they could be received by our representatives in New York. According to Fadli, this is a form of diplomacy. Apart from that, the Minister of Culture said that institutions under the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN), as well as related agencies such as the National Police and TNI, are also expected to play an active role. The same applies to provincial and district/city governments, so that museum management can be developed to be more attractive, able to attract visitors, and ultimately sustainable and able to support itself. “One of the important steps to promote the museum is through a public-private partnership scheme. For this we need support from the private sector through the formation of a joint management board,” said Fadli. After visiting the Sandi Museum, Fadli continued his working visit to Dalem Jayadipuran, which is in the vicinity of the Cultural Conservation Center (BPK) office area X, Yogyakarta. During his visit, Fadli highlighted the building area that used to be a dormitory belonging to the Jayadipura KRT, which was also the venue for the first Indonesian Women’s Congress held on December 22-25, 1928. Fadli’s visit to Yogyakarta was carried out in preparation for the 2025 Culture Day celebration. On this occasion, Fadli carried out a number of strategic coordinations with the management to promote and utilize culture in these places. The Ministry of Culture encourages the promotion of museum management by involving various parties in a public-private partnership scheme so that museums become increasingly attractive to the public.
