Fame in memories: With whose passing the ‘blue sky’ went to sleep forever…

New Delhi, October 20 (IANS). Today, many in Bollywood talk about personalities who have the ability to enter hearts with the help of silver screen through romantic films. You must have heard the song ‘Aisa Desh Hai Mera’ from the 2004 film ‘Veer-Zara’. In this song the land of Punjab and the fragrance of love that lives in this land has been shown in such a way that even today you will smile after watching and listening to this song. After all, what was the reason that a director who made mainstream films in Bollywood felt Punjab so deeply in his films? Actually, after Partition, this person’s family came to Ludhiana, Punjab, from Pakistan. His family wanted him to do engineering but he loved Punjab. Didn’t do engineering, went straight to Bombay (now Mumbai) and started chasing his dreams in ‘City of Dreams’. The name of that person who spread his brilliance on the sky of Hindi cinema through his hard work was Yash Chopra. He left Punjab to fulfill his dreams, but his heartstrings always remained connected there. A glimpse of this was visible from time to time in his films. It is meaningless to look at the Bollywood film industry apart from Yash Chopra. Whether Yash Chopra directed or produced films, love was the main theme of his films. It has been said that Yash Chopra had no equal in making romantic films. Evidence of this can also be found by watching his films. Yash Chopra was one such person who, apart from romantic films, also made other genre films with the same passion as he loved the land of Punjab. In the year 1959, Yash Chopra made a big debut in Bollywood with the film ‘Dhool Ka Phool’ which was based on social issues. In 1961, he directed the film ‘Dharmaputra’ and told Bollywood that the term ‘show man’ was coined for him. In 1975, Yash Chopra created the image of Amitabh Bachchan as ‘Angry Young Man’ from the film ‘Deewar’, which is still associated with Amitabh’s name. Yash Chopra achieved commercial success with films like ‘Waqt’, ‘Mashal’, ‘Trishul’, ‘Daag’ and ushered in a new era of masala films. He started Yash Raj Banners and connected every breath of his life with film production. It has been said about Yash Chopra, who ruled the hearts of film lovers across Bollywood for nearly five decades, that ‘he was an actor’s director’. He used to create the characters himself and bring them to the screen. Love was his favorite subject. No matter what the character was in his films, he used to work in the instructions of Yash Chopra. The 1981 film ‘Silsila’ was a milestone not only for Yash Chopra but also for Amitabh Bachchan, Rekha and Jaya Bachchan. Yash Chopra portrayed the turmoil of Amitabh’s personal life on screen with complete honesty. ‘Lamhe’ (1991) and ‘Dar’ (1993), both were films of different taste and genre, Mohabbat had a different character but became a landmark movie. Yash Chopra got many awards, respect, status but his heart kept beating in the land of Punjab. Although he was sad to stay away from the land of Punjab, he was happy that in the films, amidst the white snow-capped peaks and tall Chinar trees, the heart of love always kept beating in the heart of Punjab. Even today, when Yash Chopra’s name comes to our lips, a song comes to mind, ‘Neela Aasman So Gaya, Neela Aasman So Gaya.’ On October 21, 2012, Yash Chopra left on a journey to the distant skies. After his departure it seems that ‘the blue sky goes to sleep’. Yash Raj Films wrote a lot for Yash Chopra. A fitting end to an illustrious career, a film that encompasses decades of great work, ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ starring Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma was Yash Chopra’s last film as a director. He passed away on October 21, 2012 at the age of 80, leaving behind a legacy that is an inspiration. released on November 13, 2012 and received an overwhelming response worldwide and became one of the highest grossing films of the year.” –IANS ABM/VC
