Britain's Supreme Court rejected the bail pleading of the fleeing Diamond businessman Nirav Modi
New -Delhi, May 16 (IANS). The Kings Bench Division High Court in the British capital London rejected the bail pleader of the flights of Diamond businessman Nirav Modi, who used to make several fruitless efforts. The government lawyer strongly opposed his petition. A highly capable team of India’s Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) also supported the government’s side. The CBI especially sent its officials to London for this trial. The CBI successfully offered its side, which refused the court bail. Nirav Modi is a volatile economic criminal. He is being sought in India for a trial in a large bank fraud case related to the Punjab National Bank, where he allegedly set up Rs 6,498.20 crore. He has been in jail in Britain since March 19, 2019. The Supreme Court in the United Kingdom has already approved its extradition in favor of the Government of India. This is the 10th time when Nirav Modi has been trying to bail since his arrest, the CBI is constantly opposed to his release by a team of government lawyers. Nirav Modi, along with his uncle Mehul Choksi, is accused of performing one of India’s largest bank fraud. Both benefited from the false letter of the enterprise (Lou) of the Punjab National Bank branch in Mumbai to allegedly withdraw a large amount of Indian banks. Investigators claim that Nirav Modi cheated around Rs 6.498 crore, while Choksi allegedly cheated borrowers of more than Rs 7,000 crore. In February 2018, the two fled from India just before the CBI registered their first case. Nirav Modi is filed in a British prison, while legal action against Choksi in Belgium is moving forward. Sources revealed that a court in Antwerp on Friday (May 16) will start a hearing on India’s extradition request. Choksi’s initial bail pleader, who was detained by Belgian officials last month, was rejected. Reports indicate that Indian agencies gave additional evidence to strengthen the prosecution case before their next bail hearing. With the acceleration of judicial processes in both the United Kingdom and Belgium, the Indian officials are optimistic about the refuge of the refugees to face the hearing. -Ians Ekd/ Share This Story Tags
