Saoirse Ronan and Selena Gomez came together for Variety’s Actors on Actors interview but fans were left divided over one very awkward segment
Variety has been bringing actors together all week for their Actors on Actors interviews and on Wednesday, it was Saoirse Ronan and Selena Gomez’s time to take the hot seats.
The talented pair discussed everything from their projects, the characters they played this year and personal challenges.
However, at one point, the interview took an awkward turn as Saoirse mistakenly thought Selena’s Only Murders in the building co-star Meryl Streep had only featured in one episode of the hit show.
Selena expressed her gratitude at being able to work with the Hollywood icon in two seasons of the show. She gushed: “By the way, Meryl was such a highlight for me,” to which Saoirse asked: “Of course, cause Meryl’s in an episode isn’t she?”
Attempting to make light of the situation, Selena jokingly added: “No, she was in two seasons.” Saoirse responded: “She was in two seasons?! She’s such a baller. That’s so cool.”
Viewers at home were left divided over the awkward moment, with some arguing Saoirse should have done her homework while others defended the actress for the innocent mistake.
One X user quipped: “Saoirse did one Google to see Selena’s filmography, saw she worked with Meryl and was like yep, that’s the only info I need.” Another person expressed: “Someone needs to update Saoirse on the Meryl and Martin of it all.”
Somebody else said: “Imagine being told you’re going to interview Selena Gomez and then not watching her show.”
However, others were quick to defend Saoirse as someone else penned: “People saying Saoirse didn’t do her research because she didn’t know how much Meryl is in that show… They are there to promote their movies, watching Selena’s whole ass show is not part of the assignment.”
While yet another added: “Saoirse didn’t even know Meryl was in two seasons of OMITB. I love her.”
The exchange comes after Selena said at the beginning of the interview: “This is my first time, everybody.” Saoirse said: “I can tell, because you’ve got all of your notes. Now I’m getting nervous. ‘Oh God, I should have made notes,” not realizing what would happen later on.
