In a letter sent to Harvard President Alan Garber, the US Department of Education claimed that the university made ‘incomplete and inaccurate’ revelations between 2014 and 2019. However, the letter offered no direct proof of foreign influence or offense. Harvard responds to accusations Harvard rejected the implication of violation and defended his compliance record. “Harvard has submitted such reports for decades as part of its continued compliance with the law,” the university said in a statement. “This includes contracts to provide executive education, other training and academic publications.” The request of the Department of Education has also asked for the past ten years, their research work, and list of visiting scientists and faculties with foreign government’s connections for information on foreign students and faculties. The action on campus protests The move is part of a broader Trump-led campaign against American colleges, especially those facing pro-Palestinian protests. Trump has accused universities of allowing anti -Semitism and radical foreign influence on campuses. Over the past few weeks, Trump has ordered an overview of up to $ 9 billion to federal contracts and grants to Harvard, threatened to deprive the university’s tax release status, and proposed ban on diversity, fairness and inclusion (Dei) and have masks on campus. Freezing to Harvard’s resistance after Harvard refused to meet a series of administrative claims, the White House announced that it was freezing $ 2.3 billion in federal financing. The university earlier rejected several government requests as unconstitutional overreaction. First Published: 19 Apr 2025, 01:04 AM IST
