Feeling unsafe at my farmhouse to burglaries: Sangeeta Bijlani
Pune, October 12 (PTI) Almost three months after a theft at her farmhouse in the Pune district of Maharashtra, actor Sangeta Bijlani expressed concern about the lack of progress in the investigation and said she no longer felt safe on the property. Bijlani recently met Pune Rural Superintendent of Police Sandip Singh Gill to look at the status of the investigation in the theft at her farmhouse near the Pavana Dam. The actor said she also applied for a firearm license, citing personal safety concerns. In July, unidentified persons broke into her property and vandalized the domestic objects such as fridge, TV sets and furniture and scribbled obscene graffiti against the walls. According to police, they also removed £ 50,000 cash and a television worth £ 7,000. The actor described the incident as deeply disturbing. “I’ve stayed there for the past 20 years. Pavana was a home for me, and it’s been three and a half months since the horrific incident of theft at my farmhouse, but there is still no breakthrough, ‘she told Pti on Friday night. Bijlani said SP Gill gave her the assurance that the police would “go to the bottom of the case and the culprits would tackle”. ‘There was a theft and housebreaking. It was narrow. Fortunately, I wasn’t there. There were obscene things and graffiti written on the wall inside the house, ‘she said. Bijlani said the incident not only shook her, but also the wider community in the area. “There are several residents in Pavana, including senior citizens and families. Security is important. Lately, the residents of the Pavana area feel unsafe,” she claimed. The actor said for the first time that she felt the need to be armed for self -protection. “In the wake of this incident, I sought a firearm license from Pune rural police. As a woman, when I go home alone, I think some kind of protection should be there. I never felt the need to have a firearm license, but this is the first time I feel insecure, ‘she said. “I need a firearm, and this is the first time I feel unsafe and a little scared,” she added. Bijlani said she hopes that the authorities will take strong measures and speed up the investigation to restore the trust of residents of the area.
