Festive surveillance: RPF clamps down on liquor smuggling in 'Operation Vigilant'
Malda, October 18 (IANS). To prevent the transportation of illicit liquor and prohibited items during the festive season, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Malda division has intensified vigilance and preventive checks in the entire region under ‘Operation Vigilant’ campaign. This campaign is being conducted under the guidance of Malda Divisional Railway Manager Manish Kumar Gupta and supervision of Divisional Safety Commissioner AK Kullu. Over the past few days, RPF has made several significant seizures and arrests during patrolling and surveillance at the Bhagalpur station. On October 16, the RPF team stopped and investigated Polo Yadav, who was moving suspiciously near Platform 4/5, from whom 20 bottles of foreign liquor worth Rs 11,050 were recovered. Polo Yadav is a resident of Bhagalpur, Bihar. On the same day, during the examination of a plastic bag and pittu bag found on Platform no. 1 was held, 75 bottles of country liquor (Mahir Royal Jharkhand and Mahua variety) worth Rs 7,375 were recovered, which were seized as unclaimed property. The next day, on October 17, a check of suspicious objects under the footbridge on platform number 6 led to the recovery of 42 bottles of Royal Stag whiskey worth around Rs 22,140. On the same day, Saroj Kumar was at Platform No. Saroj Kumar is a resident of Bhagalpur, Bihar. In all, under ‘Operation Vigilant’, 182 bottles of liquor (domestic and foreign) with an estimated street value of Rs 60,815 were recovered, and two persons were arrested. All the seized items and the accused have been handed over to the relevant Excise Department for further legal action.
