New chapter in the relations of India-Canada on the pretext of the G-7 conference, expectations of PM Modi and Mark Carney Meeting
New -delhi, June 12 (IANS). The chances of improving relations between the two countries have now increased amid long tensions in India and Canada. Prime Minister Narendra Modi accepted the invitation next week to attend the G-7 Summit in Kananaskis, Canada, at the invitation of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry, said in a weekly press briefing: “Our Prime Minister received a call from Canadian Prime Minister Mark Karney last week. During this conversation, Premier Carney invited him to attend the G-7 conference, which the two leaders also discussed the India-Canada relationships. The spokesman said this meeting would be an important opportunity to give a new direction to the relations in India Canada, which keeps in mind the mutual respect, shared interests and the sensitivity of each other. Let me tell you that the relationship between India and Canada was tension in 2023 when the then Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made unfounded allegations against India. India then accused Canada of promoting fundamentalists and ignoring attacks on its diplomats. Spokesman Jaiswal said on Thursday: “Our position on anti -Indian activities in any country of the world, including Canada, is clear. Our safety issues are the most important for us and we want our international partners to take it seriously.” The Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney also described the relationship with India as very important during the election campaign, saying that it is a ‘very important relationship’ is that his government is committed to strengthening. Both countries are related to democratic systems, legal commitment to rule, large students and immigrant population, economic cooperation and technical partnerships. Canada is serving on the G-7 this year and organizes a summit between June 15 and 17 in Kananaskis, Alberta. Prime Minister Modi’s visit will be the first foreign journey in its third term. Earlier in 2024, he attended the G-7 Summit in Apulia, Italy. Premier Modi posted on X and wrote: “Talk to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Karney and congratulated on the win in the election. He thanked him for his invitation to attend the G-7 conference. India and Canada are related to democratic values and deep relations between democratic values and people.
