Filmfare Awards: Legendary Filmmaker Shyam Benegal grants posthumously with lifelong performance

New -delhi [India]October 12 (Ani): Late filmmaker Shyam Benegal was posthumously honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award Saturday during the 70th Film Fare Awards Saturday. The award was hosted by filmmaker Karan Johar, who celebrates the film of Benegal and his visionary story skills. Shyam Benegal’s daughter, Pia Benegal, was present at the event and accepted the award on behalf of her late father. “He is terribly missed by me, my family and all who were close to him, while he touched many, many people, professionally and personally. He was a truly magical person, and I accept it with great luck and pride,” his daughter said, according to filmfare’s official social media handle. The director ‘Manthan’ died on December 23, 2024 at the age of 90 at Wockhardt Hospital in Mumbai. Shyam Benegal, who was born on December 14, 1934, in a competitive Chitrapur Saraswat Brahmin family in Hyderabad, worked extensively with actors from FTII and NSD, including those such as veteran stars such as Naseruddin Shah, Smita Patil and Puri. Shabana Azmi, Kulbhushan Kharbanda Amrish Puri, among others. His films left an impact on the audience’s mind and regularly address sociopolitical themes with remarkable depth. During his celebrated career that runs almost five decades, Benegal received several praise, including the prestigious Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and Dadasaheb Phalke Award – India’s highest honor in the theater. He was cremated with full state capacity and a gun. The last rites of the filmmaker were held in the Shivaji Park Cemetery. His funeral was also attended by multiple celebrities, such as Boman Irani, Ratna Pathak, Naseuddin Shah, Gulzar, Javed Akhtar, Hansal Mehta, and others. The 70th issue of the Filmfare Awards was held on Saturday, October 11 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Shah Rukh Khan returned to offer the Filmfare Awards after a long void, along with Karan Johar, Akshay Kumar, and Maniesh Paul. (Ani)
