Payakan-Heads, Rejoice! The fan-favorite whale from Avatar: The Way of Water is making his return in this year’s upcoming sequel, Fire and ash. James Cameron promises an exciting new chapter of the avatar franchise that will introduce an entirely different side to pandora, but the latest adventure won’t be without one of its mainstays. Payakan is back, and he’s going to be fully unleashed by Cameron.
In a new image released by Empire, Payakan Makes his Great Return in Avatar: Fire and Ashand he will be better than ever before. VFX Supervisor Richard Baneham Commented on Wanting to Explore more about the creature after payakan “turned out to be one of the most popular character” after The way of water. The filmmakers now feel more confident to push the boundaries of what payakan can do as a prominent member of the franchise. “The reaction emboldened us to go forward and play payakan at the very highest level,” Baneham said. As Empire Notes, “Get Ready for Payakan 2.0.” You can check out the image below.

‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ is going to deliver a “Cinema Redefining” experience.
Jake Sully’s Son, lo’ak, remains as close as ever with the whale, but that does not mean they will be alone this time. Payakan will have a new friend called ta’nok, a female turban and fellow “outcast” to his people. “There’s a really great dynamic between them,” Baneham teased. Additionally, get ready to learn more about the social structure of the Tulkun whales. Fire and ash will be introducing the matriarch and patriarch, the clan leaders of the group. The Tulkun are here to stay, and the audience’s knowledge of them will become much greater this time around.
“Matriarch is a very interesting character. She’s in full regalia. We’re using rings and tattoos as a way to suggest (history) beyond what we’re seeing.”
An Early Reaction for ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ has already surfaced
Although a trailer has not even been released yet, James Cameron has already screened Avatar: Fire and Ash To select members of the crew and his family. The acclaimed director recently revealed that his wife, Suzy Amis Cameron, was treated to the final version of the film. She did not view scenes out of context while it was a work-in-progress, so her reaction, theoretically, was closest to what an audience member may feel when it hits theaters this December. If her emotional response to Fire and ash is any indication, then fans will have to take some tissues with them.
“My wife watched the whole thing from end to end – she had kept herself away from it and I wasn’t showing her bits and pieces as we went along. This was December 22nd. She bawled for four hours. She kept trying to get her sh ** back together Then she’d Just Tear Up and Start Crying Again.
It’s unclear what exactly prompted the emotional reaction, but after cameron teased that the sully family would be put through the ringer, let’s just hope they would lose another member by the time the credit roll. Hopefully, we didnnt just jinx them.
