Five-Car Crash Including Several Police Cars Shuts A1 Near Newcastle – ryan

A Section of the A1 NEAR Newcastle is closed due to a serious collision.

The Road between Junctions 73 (Blaydon and Consett Turnoff) and 75 (West Denton Roundabout) was closed in Both directions shortly after 2:30 am on Wednesday April 9 following the five collision.

Pictures from the scene show a number of police vehicle were involved in the crash.

Five people were taken to hospital following the early morning crash, the North East Ambulance Service has said.

A North East Ambulance Service Spokesperson Said: “We dispatched five ambulance crews, a specialist paramedic, a duty officer, two crews from our hazardous area responses team (heart) and requested support from our colleagues at the Great North Air Ambulance Service (gnaas). attended by road.

“Five patients were transported to hospital for further treatment.”

A Northumbria Police Spokesperson Said: “Shortly before 2:30 AM Today (Wednesday) We Received a Report of a Multi-Vehicle Collition on the A1 Northbound Near the Derwent Haugh Road Junction, Gateshead.

“Emergency services are currently in attendance.

“A section of the road is closed in both directions – there are diversions in place from the derwent Haugh Road Junction Northbound, and the A69 Roundabout Southbound.

“Motorists should use alternative routes where possible.”

The incident caused significant tailbacks for drivers at rush hour.

National Highways has said the A1 will be closed between Swalwell in Gateshead and Denton in Both directions into Wednesday afternoon.

In a statement, National Highways said: “A multi-vehicle collision result in serious injuries occurred at Approximately 0230 this morning (Wednesday April 9).

“Due to the wonity of the collision a full Northumbria Police Investigation is under way and they advise it will be prostracted.”
